![]() ![]() "It was about letting go of someone and having them let go of you," Lavigne recently told Yahoo Music of the song. Set to be released on iTunes on Tuesday, the tune was in fact penned last March, on the first day Lavigne and Kroeger started working together in the studio, where they eventually fell in love. Buzzfeed wrote a review titled "Chad Kroeger And Avril Lavigne Made A Duet Together And It’s Just As Horrible As You’d Imagine." Feminist website Jezebel echoed the sentiment, headlining their piece on the subject "The Avril Lavigne/Chad Kroeger Duet Is As Terrible As You'd Expect." MTV's Buzzworthy Blog, meanwhile, was slightly less superlative: "Avril Lavigne + Chad Kroeger's 'Let Me Go' Is Like The Relationship Therapist We're Too Cheap To Pay For." An overall decent effort on a married couple duet.Unfortunately, the piano ballad, which is firmly positioned between a Lavigne pop confection and a Nickelback rock anthem, is not being particularly embraced by critics. It has a universal storyline and it is successfully shown through not only its lyrics but its instrumentation and even its music video (even if it is a little creepy at some parts). Maybe this song is supposed to be a representation of their love lives before they got married, but at least it wasn’t overly cheesy. I’ve got to give her props, “Let Me Go” definitely isn’t the overly sappy, husband-wife duet that fans were probably expecting. It has a very Nickelback feel to the storyline with an eerie, ghostly aspect (especially in the case of the close-ups). There is very little interaction between the happy couple, minus one scene when Kroeger is caressing his wife’s shoulders as she plays. It takes place in a large, gothic-looking house with elegant mirrors and fancy curtains flying around while Lavigne plays her Yamaha piano, drenched in a heavenly light. Her music video for “Let Me Go” fits the storyline in the best visual way possible for this song. Of course, because she wanted her man to be featured in the track, the context of the song shifted to how “two goodbyes lead to this new life” instead of them never getting together at the end. The slow buildup from a soft start to a strong chorus and back again channels Seether and Amy Lee‘s 2004 hit power breakup ballad “Broken”, which is ironic because the track was originally written to be solely about a love lost. ![]() Lavigne’s high-pitched, echoing vocals paired with Kroeger’s raspy, rocker voice is a surprisingly perfect fit for the musicality of the song. In fact, it’s quite beautiful in the sense that it gives a little ray of hope that “love’s never too late.” Beginning and ending with wispy pianos and regal violins makes the storyline of finding love after trying to get over a devastating heartbreak turn into a haunting lullaby. “Let Me Go” isn’t necessarily a terrible song. I mean, aren’t couple duets the ultimate bad omen? Duets in general are already pretty cheesy and the fact that she decided to feature her hubby in her latest love ballad “Let Me Go” seems a little too extreme. ![]() When everyone’s favorite “mother f*ckin’ princess” Avril Lavigne got married to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, the last thing that we thought would happen would be for her to write a duet with him (especially since it happened so out of the blue). ![]() ![]() ![]() On its strongest week, March 3-9, “God’s Plan” was streamed 101.7 million times, a number bested by only Baauer’s 2013 “Harlem Shake,” the success of which, of course, was buoyed by a wave of viral videos. According to Nielsen Music, “God’s Plan”-which, you will recall, has been out for only seven weeks-has already clocked seven of the top 10 best streaming weeks of all time. By the ever-changing metrics of the ever-fluid streaming industry, though, it’s actually one of the most successful songs ever. By the Billboard Hot 100’s standards, it’s already Drake’s most successful solo hit (the summer ’16 smash “One Dance,” which features WizKid and Kyla, spent 10 weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, and “Work,” the Rihanna hit on which Drake is featured, held the top spot for nine). 1 song in the country for the past seven weeks, and since we’re only 11 weeks into the year, it feels safe to call it 2018’s biggest hit. I bet even he knows the words to “God’s Plan.”ĭrake’s ever-present single has been the no. ![]() ![]() One Ringer staffer attests to having patronized a bar this weekend where it was played four times in the span of about two hours and nobody was mad about it. Hah, just kidding-of course you have. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now as much as I love Rose Tyler, this scenario in my head hurts the most because Donna’s own farewell has to be the most depressing moment of the entire series. ![]() How sad could this be for a reunion where age truly is authentic and not contrived like it was for Clara? Time and loss could have been truly ‘felt.’ Imagine Donna Noble Bring them in when they are young so you can use a different actor, or even bring back the same actor/actress to play the part old. Nevertheless, I do consider classic companions to be just as important as new companions and strongly believe these characters can become just as beloved if introduced in such a brilliant way as “School Reunion” was for Sarah Jane.īecause the plot of “Last Christmas” opens the door for any ages and any times, the ideas for classic companions are endless. I’ve heard names, I’ve watched an episode here and there, but haven’t had the time to see it from beginning to end just yet (though I plan on trying eventually). Now, I will be the first to admit and confess that I am not as familiar with classic characters of Doctor Who. Imagine a Classic Character Jo, the 11th Doctor, and Sarah Jane in The Sarah Jane Adventures How sad would it have been for them to spend one “last Christmas” together before they are separated once more? This would be sad, yet romantic in my book, considering how special Christmas was for the two. They soon begin to realize that they can’t really be there because they are in separate worlds. Just imagine Rose having an adventure with the 10 th Doctor (this being shocking in itself) only to peel away another layer of the dream and Rose come face to face with the “new” Doctor. In a dream, even parallel universes can’t keep the Doctor and Rose apart. ![]() For a moment, I want you to imagine my few favorite scenarios (at the end, feel free to share your own)… Imagine Rose TylerĪs someone who doesn’t really want Rose’s story messed with, a dream adventure would have been the perfect way to bring the two together once more without changing much at all. ![]() Who even knew how old they all were? How brave would it have been to include a different companion than Clara? Save her ending for another day and do something a little more daring. Like the adventure said, they all could be anyone, anywhere, and anytime. The potential of this particular storyline opened up my imagination. One of my favorite pastimes has to do with just imagining different scenarios whether for my own stories or the possibilities of stories based on characters others write (especially if I don’t like an ending). The main reason I love these monsters so much has to do with the potential storylines. To me, I can’t help but picture different scenarios based on the premise of “Last Christmas.” The dream monsters slowly killing you are quite clever and one of my favorite Moffat ideas ever (another reason why I believe the “don’t blink” similarities weren’t necessary at all). We wouldn’t have felt as much loneliness, as much despair. The choice of Clara Oswald was quite obvious though, wasn’t it? We had just said goodbye to her and then one episode later she’s back? Imagine if the same choice had been made for Rose Tyler after that emotional goodbye on the beach from “Doomsday?” Imagine if she just showed back up in “The Runaway Bride?” Well, we would have missed out on so much of the Doctor’s characterization. They all believed they were on an adventure with the Doctor, especially Clara who had said goodbye in the last episode.Īnd as a whole, this idea is perfectly sound, and for Moffat had a nice and clear beginning, middle, and end. Clara briefly believed Danny was alive once more. How cruel then the dreams became to make you believe in something that just wasn’t? They all believed in Santa Claus again (though the tangerines hint to his existence in the end). I see loneliness in the idea that when you wake up, you must go back to real life, such as the young woman Shona who wasn’t really a scientist like she had dreamed. One of the strengths of the episode was surprisingly the emotional sadness behind it. That all being said, after a lot of thinking about this episode about dreams within dreams, I couldn’t help but wonder what if…what if Clara Oswald wasn’t the companion to show up in this dream world? As it is a dream world, the companion choices could have been endless: Sarah Jane (if only…sniff), Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Susan, Captain Jack Harkness, etc. Moreover, I rather enjoyed “Last Christmas” for the most part (aside from the “Don’t Blink” repetition with the unnecessary addition to the story of “Don’t Think”). Indeed, I’ve mostly warmed to Clara thanks to the much needed characterization given to her this past season (though I think she was given far too many goodbyes). It isn’t a “Last Christmas” hate one either. Now, going by the title of the article alone, I want to first emphasize that this is not a Clara hate type of article. ![]() ![]() The tension is already evident as each detective and Benson arrive at the courthouse waiting room. Peter Stone is prosecuting a woman who killed her cop husband – and who has admitted to this – but we discover the team members aren't all on the same page regarding what they will say when testifying. Written by SVU showrunner Michael Chernuchin, it was a compelling look into the minds of SVU detectives and their lieutenant as they wait for their turn in the witness box in a controversial case. (Photo: NBC.Law & Order SVU “Part 33” was an excellent "day-in-the-life" type episode, done in a format that is out-of-the-box for the series. What’s coming up next? – Well, there’s a lengthy hiatus! Head over here to find out, for now, when the show is going to be returning to NBC. The performances were great across the board, but as with many other “SVU” episodes, this ended on a sobering note. There needs to be an education that these people are just like all of us and love is love, but they are not quite there yet. Overall – This episode certainly proved to be another compelling entry in the season, but one that was at times difficult to watch over the way in which the transgender community was treated by some of the characters. It’s the saddest music anyone would ever want to hear. In true “SVU” fashion, we had the wrap-up in the final minutes, which reminded us exactly about what this episode was about: Three lives were destroyed, and all because someone was transgender. Instead, he left with a guilty verdict, and potentially spending the majority of his life in prison on a murder charge. He almost got Hype to admit the truth, but it didn’t happen. He’s not the sort of guy you want to run into in the courtroom. Even in court, Hype continued to stick to that story rather than admit that the violent fight with Cash was over Eva. Unfortunately, the problem was that he didn’t want to “snitch” on his guys, once again giving into the pressures of being in that world. They were transphobic, violent, and out to destroy his light. The decision that Hype faced at the end of the episode was painful: He knew that Cash and Vincent attacked Eva, mostly because they knew of the ramifications that could come with her being out there. Hype claimed Hype’s death was self-defense, and the biggest issue that he was facing here was his lawyer, who was fine to sell him out seemingly and have him face jail time if it meant sparing everyone else on the label. As noted, the pressure within the hip-hop community to fit into a certain box got to him.įrom here, matters escalated when Hype and fellow performer Cash Lewis, supposedly over a contract, got into a violent altercation after Eva passed away from her injuries. She wanted to dine out with him in public, but he was afraid to. The first major complication they ran into was the revelation that Hype had kept what seemed to be the truth from the unit for as long as he possibly could: He was actually in a romantic relationship with the woman, but was afraid to come clean about it because of fears over what it would do to his image in the community. The investigation began from here for the SVU, and what they of course learned was that this was far more complicated than they first thought. A record label CEO named Vincent Love (played effectively by Wyclef Jean) and one of his up-and-coming rappers named Hype were targeted in an investigation over an attack on a transgender student named Eva. ![]() Was it worth the wait? We’d day so, mostly because it explored some themes that may be difficult to confront, but still very much present in reality: Prejudices that exist within certain communities, even in the year 2016. ![]() ![]() Thanks to FALINXX for providing the game dutch back cover. ![]() Thanks to MARCIO1986 for providing the game cds & the portuguese front & back hires covers.
